Child & Adolescent
Counseling
Every child and teenager deserves a safe, supportive space to be heard. Our compassionate therapists help young clients build confidence, manage emotions, and thrive — at every stage of growing up.
Supporting Your Child Through Every Challenge
Children and adolescents face a unique set of pressures that can be difficult to navigate on their own. Whether your child is struggling with emotions, behavior, social relationships, or school challenges — early therapeutic support can make a profound difference in their confidence, resilience, and overall well-being.
At Carolina Blue Skies Counseling, our therapists specialize in working with young clients of all ages. We create a warm, non-judgmental environment where children and teens feel safe to open up, explore their feelings, and develop the tools they need to thrive.

Play Therapy for Children Under 10
For young children, play is their primary language. Play therapy is a developmentally appropriate, evidence-based approach that uses play as the primary medium for expression and healing — allowing children to communicate experiences and emotions they may not yet have words for.
Our play therapy specialist has 25+ years of clinical experience, including serving as Director of Clinical Services at a child guidance center. She creates a safe, nurturing environment where young children can process challenging emotions, work through trauma, and develop healthy coping skills — all through the natural language of play.
What to Expect
We understand that bringing your child to therapy is a big step. Here's what the process looks like from start to finish.
Initial Consultation
The first session is typically an intake meeting — an opportunity to get to know your child and family, understand your concerns, and discuss goals for therapy.
Individualized Plan
Your therapist will develop a personalized approach tailored to your child's age, personality, and specific needs — using play therapy, talk therapy, or a combination of both.
Regular Sessions
Therapy sessions are held weekly or bi-weekly depending on your child's needs. Progress is reviewed regularly and the treatment plan adjusted as your child grows.
Family Involvement
We believe in partnering with parents and caregivers throughout the process. We'll keep you informed, share strategies for home, and involve you as much as is appropriate.

How We Work With Young Clients
We meet children and teens exactly where they are — using approaches that are developmentally appropriate, evidence-based, and tailored to each individual.
Play Therapy
For young children, play is the primary language. Play therapy allows children under 10 to express and process emotions through the natural medium of play — building coping skills in a way that feels safe and natural.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Adapted for young clients, CBT helps children and adolescents identify unhelpful thought patterns and develop healthier ways of thinking and responding to life's challenges.
Narrative Therapy
Helps adolescents reframe their personal stories and separate themselves from their problems — empowering them to see their own strengths and write a new chapter.
Family Systems Approach
Children don't exist in isolation — they exist within families. We incorporate family dynamics into the therapeutic process, helping parents and caregivers support growth at home.
Mindfulness & Coping Skills
Age-appropriate mindfulness tools help children and teens learn to regulate emotions, manage anxiety, and respond to stress in healthy, constructive ways.
Trauma-Informed Care
For children who have experienced trauma or abuse, our therapists provide compassionate, trauma-informed support that prioritizes safety, trust, and healing at the child's own pace.
Your child deserves to thrive.
Taking the first step toward support is one of the most loving things you can do. We're here to help your family every step of the way.
